Isaac Mizhari

Salam.

Today, we applaud a New Yorker who was born into an observant Egyptian Jewish. I found something interesting.

Try this with a dark staight cut jeans and electric blue heels. Put on a crop cardigan of any colour, match it with your heels, try and be wild, you're entering a new zone. Put on your shawl, play with the twirl it left or right, put a flower in the shawl and put on a big smile. Check your purse, get your ATM, chapstick and girl, you're ready to go.

Will you try it, now?

Lots of love.

Naeem Khan

Salam!

I am going recreate this blog. It will be like a fashion blog of designers which I admire. There might be a polyvore set here and there but I am trying to make this a daily basis. Since Ma bought me a new gadget that I totally adore.

So, today, hailing from India but have been living in America is Naeem Khan. Designer and CEO of his own creations, Naeem Khan, his designs are all intricate and very pleasing to the eyes.Bejeweled collars, extravagant sequins, intricate hand embroideries—here were all the elements that keep his clientele coming back for more, more, more.

Just like an abaya with a body full of bling-bling. Love the cuffs. Totally adore the colours on white. Wear with pants and a shirt. Any colour hijab would do but do get away from plain ol' black. It's too hard to ignore this. Would you wear this?

Pajama Party

Salam!

(Hi Fatiha!)

I am so sorry for not updating frequently. So sorry. :S

Well, School is starting for me and I am thinking of all those mornings when I will sit in front of my wadrobe and think of what to wear. Here's one set that I created.

For many of us, donning a very bright pants is horrifying. But I say, why not try? A pajama suit is what I call when one look so effortless in t-shirt and jeans. I think we all should try a pajama suit. Not just that it is easy, now, people won't complain about the time we spent in front of the mirror. :D

For all those who's schooling, get a lot of pants and tops in your wardrobe. And a lot of those shawls. Play with colours. Have fun!

Love,
Nabilah.

Along for the ride.

Salam!

I am so sorry for the lack of posts. I have been offered a job just recently. So I go there so much early and knock off so late thus no time for posts. I'll make it once a week thinggy okay?

Alright. Remember the time I said I'll show you my maxi dresses? Here's one of them. (:

See how we paired it with a long-sleeve tee and a hijab just like that? That's how it usually is in Singapore. With lots and lots of bangles, a tote and a killer heels or just a ballerina pumps.

Let's get on with things. Outerwear are supposed to be fun and casual but in this hot, sunny heat, it gets a litte more troublesome. Especially the chunky kinds wit a lot ofaccesories like chains and brooches. So, what I suggest is to get a pseudo material. Like denim, get one that is thinner and lighter. Cotton is always te best though when you sweat it just looked like you swam in a pond or a swimming pool.

Basically, choose anything that is comfortable. Style mightbe it but comfortability is the key to everything. Work it, girls.

Love,

Salam!

I am sorry for the lack of posts. I have been busy. I am so sorry. But here's an article I found on iluvislam.com and I hope that you guys can take benefit from it.

I sat in the car that night, after the blessed day of Eid, and watched you while my heart tore to shreds. You were so pretty, so confident, so relaxed as you strolled across the street while your "boyfriend" casually rested his arm on your shoulder. How I longed to get out of the car, take anything I could get my hands on, and cover you with it, that I might conceal some of what you deemed prudent to reveal and save you from being the object of lustful gazes.

Sure, your jeans fitted well, like a second skin, and your bare shoulders glistened beneath the street lights. No doubt, the effect you had aimed to achieve had been realized, but was Allah pleased with the effect you produced?

That "look" that you spend such a lot of time cultivating — tell me, what will be its end? All of us at last will enter a dark and lonely earth-filled grave, where your body that you spent so much time trying to perfect for the eyes of others will be food for the worms and ants.

The music that blared from the speakers of the car that you had emerged from shook the very earth beneath me, but undoubtedly an earthquake from Allah would have shook the ground even more. Where would that have left us, my dearest sister? Are you ready to meet your Lord?

And then the Adhan rang out. Not one of your friends switched off their thumping music. The call, sent to us by Allah since the time of His blessed Prophet, fell on deaf ears that were accustomed to the voice of Shaytan alone.

And I cried as I thought of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah upon him) wandering the streets of Ta'if, calling towards the Oneness of God, towards a path that you have been blessed with, without any effort on your part. I cried as I pictured the stones from street urchins hitting his blessed body. Could you imagine yourself to be one of those who cast stones at the beloved of Allah and said to him, "Your way is not for me. Go, for I am at peace with what I have found. My desires reign supreme." Could it be that you are thinking like them — those who drew blood from his blessed body and caused his shoes to stick to his feet because of the excessive blood flowing into them?

I had to stifle the urge to get out of the car, stand in the middle of the street, and shout at all of you to stop! For Allah's sake — stop! My dearest sister, I love you. More than anything, I desire success for you. And what is success? Is it attracting the glance of men who desire you for nothing more than your body? Is it going out and having a "good time"? I would never want to see you suffer. But time has taught me that the path you are on is a slippery one that leads to nothing more than misery.

Once upon a time, I too believed that there was nothing more to life than having "fun." I too reveled in male attention that gave me a sense of self-worth — until I found purpose.

"What is purpose?" you ask. One word — Allah and following His way. That means leading a life filled with service to mankind and spreading goodness. No amount of male attention is going to fill that emptiness, the void left by not having Allah in your life.

I will pray for you and keep hoping that we will someday be friends in Paradise. Ameen. Until then, I'm ready to help you in any way. I am your sister in Islam.

Fi Amanillah.

shoe shine shoe blind

Salam.

(Hi Aisha!)

Today, I am going to talk about something that might just make girls giggle. Girls like me I suppose. Hehh. It's part of fashion. Some might just make a pass for it but to me it's important all the same.

To others, they're just shoes. To some of us, they're gladiator sandals, stilletos, killer heels, platforms, studded or jeweled flats, ballerina flats, sneakers and the list goes on and on. I tell you, it really is a powerful tool. You'll feel fabulous even on Fat Days with shoes. They can't go wrong can they?

Shoes come from a long long way. From just to protect your feet from harm to making a fashion statement, shoes has its own history just like any other. But here's some tips that might just be a tad useful. :D

If the shoe doesn't fit, don't buy it. It won't stretch enough to be comfortable and goodness knows, your feet will never shrink. Make sure you follow these guidelines:

- There should be about 1/2" between the tip of your biggest toe and the end of the shoe.
- Stand up when being fitted because feet are longer when you're standing.
- Buy shoes at the end of the day when feet are largest.
- Measure both of your feet - they may not be the same size. (I personaly have this problem)

Shoes had proven that sometimes, you have to hurt to gain. But really, corns, bunions, hammer toes, shortened calf muscles and ingrown toenails don't sound like "must-haves". The 'ideal shoes' one would suggest is a one and a half to two inch heels.

Though sticking to flats all the way won't work for the heels too. Too much pressure for a four hour shopping spree will tire your pretty heels. Alternate between heels and flats. The more reason do you need to shop for shoes, right? (: Always a good reason.

Free.

Sami Yusuf - Free lyrics

What goes through your mind?
As you sit there looking at me
Well I can tell from your looks
That you think I'm so oppressed
But I don't need for you to liberate me

My head is not bare
And you cant see my covered hair
So you sit there and you stare
And you judge me with your glare
Youre sure I'm in despair
But are you not aware
Under this scarf that I wear
I have feelings, and I do care

CHORUS:
So dont you see?
That I'm truly free
This piece of scarf on me
I wear so proudly
To preserve my dignity...

My modesty
My integrity
So don't judge me
Open your eyes and see...
Why can't you just accept me? she says
Why can't I just be me? she says
Time and time again
You speak of democracy
Yet you rob me of my liberty
And all I want is equality
Why can't you just let me be free?

For you I sing this song
My sister, may you always be strong
From you I've learnt so much
How you suffer so much
Yet you forgive those who laugh at you
You walk with no fear
Through the insults you hear
Your wish so sincere
That they'd understand you
But before you walk away
This time you turn and say:

But don't you see?
That I'm truly free
This piece of scarf on me
I wear so proudly
To preserve my dignity
My modesty
My integrity
So let me be
She says with a smile
I'm the one who's free

Really really inspiring song. The lyrics are so wonderful that I nearly cried! May you ALWAYS BE STRONG DARLINGS! He's with us EVERYWHERE! Don't give up. Not yet, not yet!

And though I did not have to go through this very much often, (mine always come in questions of my race since I looked chinese and they would ask me if I'm a convert. But never never in disgusted way. I am thankful, hamdan lillah) I am aware of these things happening in other parts of the world. Sometimes, I wish that everybody would just understand eventually but change is a slow process, they say. So, we do what we do. We'll try and ignore and uphold te dignity. We'll try and explain whenever they ask. We'll try and try but it's up to them to have an opinion. InshaAllah, our works will bear fruits in the near future.

<3, Nabilah.

Tomorrow has much more promises.

Salam!

I am sorry for not updating these past few days. I was rather busy with some stuff and had not the chance to properly blog. Sorry!

(Anyway, Hi Sakeenah!)

Here' another collection of moi. I like pastels and sometimes you can never go wrong with it. Though it helps if your skin tone is of a darker shade. It accentuates your features. But that's not what I think we all are aiming for. Afterall, we shouldn't flaunt what we have where ever we go.

Diverting: Some people asked me why do I set up this blog when I know that we girls should not prettify ourselves for others to see. Honestly, I've been thinking it myself. I've asked and again asked but before anybody could ask anymore, here's my take on it. It's for self-indulgence. It's for self-appreciation and it's for self-satisfaction. I know about zuhud and how we should practice it but sometimes, it's hard. I am trying, really, I am. Only Allah knows how tough it is. But until then, this is to cheer on our fellow sisters and to show others that we are capable of tings just like them! :D

I love the casual/smart look. But of course my love of gowns have not deter yet. But trousers/pants are the second best and it is very convenient! Here, I paired the trousers with a knee-length skirt, a tank top and a cardigan. This look goes well with either heels or flats. And add a purse or a tote bag, you'll be fine and ready to go anywhere you would like for which ever day.

Wild Elephants

Salam!

(Hi Aqilah!)

So, I might not be over gown yet. Hehe. Found this beauty and I thought that I could make it a pass for the hijabis! I've added a pants, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a cape. The cape's main purpose is to hide those curves so you can wear it after you put on your favourite hijab! Sometimes, these things make life so easy. People just don't see it. <3

So, would you walk down orchard or town in this? Maybe I will. For a photoshoot. :D

For the nights I can't remember

Salam!

(Hi Ama! Hi Misliana!)

I will gladly admit that I love those victorian era inspired dresses. If I can choose a time to live, I will choose that. Just because of the lovely dresses, the elbow-length gloves and small quirky hats. Oh, who can forget the small mini umbrella?

But here in sunny Singapore, you wear that because a) you just went to a prom, b) you just went to a costume party and you're dolling up as Lady Bella (I just finished a Julia Quinn book. Hence the name.) or c) it's halloween. :D So I had to make do with dresses of all sorts and I have a few too much but I love them all! Will show them to ya, inshaAllah. (:

But here are some of my favourite photos of dresses from veiled lady's photostream. (pssst: Check out her page!!)

I spy with my little eyes something yellow and black. This might not be like a victorian dress but i like the simple effect of this dress. It made me think she's some kind of a spy. Just look at the cuffs! Simply stunning. Get this look with a black straight dress, a thin (faux or not) leather belt and a very stunning hijab to complete the look. Bags of any shades of black to grey (but not white!) or the colour of the tudung you're wearing will be fine. Now you can be more excited to play "I spy".

What's more girly than ruffles? The pleated ruffles did a stunning job to what might be an ordiary dress. I honestly am not a fan of white apparels because of it's insanely tedious how-to-take-care-of-this but this kind of things just make me want to buy everything in white. (Though it does feel like a not-so-fancy wedding dress). Will be a great dress for formal occasion with that pearly clutch in hand. Grab this look for your prom or dinner events!

Maxi dress. I am guessing the material for this dress is satin and it'll make you comfortabe just holding it. You'll want to buy it. This kind of maxi dress is an all range here in Singapore since it's not heavy and bulky. Makes shopping, school and your working days easier. There is a shop in Bugis Street which sells all kind of Maxi Dress and it's like a shopping heaven in there. The prices are on the expensive side rangin from $30 to $50 but it's all worth it since the material is good. Pair it up with your favourite cardigan or inner long-sleeved shirt, put on your hijab and you're all ready to go!

Both the above dresses are what mae me wants to turn back time and go back to that victorian era. Just look at the princess cut and all the ruffles, accesories, embroideries and such. It is really a suit for the royals. The upper part of the dress is tight but if you look caefully, this seem like a two piece dress. Therefore, I advice you to take a size (or even two!) bigger. The bigger the better, I say! Love the rich dark maroon colour on the first dress. And the pink one is just too cute to be ignored! Well, you can snatch this look for your prom or wedding day! You'll be the most gorgeous hijabi bride! :D

Will you be bold and try? We should really do a photoshoot of our own! I'm quite well-versed with the camera. We can just have a picnic, you know? :D

Lots of <3, Nabilah.

Another Polyvore Set

Salam!

Tomorrow is such a big day for me! Well, tomorrow we'll be the results of the Joint-Admission Programme for O (for ordinary) level examination takers and it is when I will know where I will be schooling for the next half a year. Really nervous but I hope everything will go well, inshaAllah, amin! :D

Here is another polyvore set I made in the middle of the night due to not being able to sleep. :D This set is more focused on what I would wear for a more formal day. I love shades of grey. They are the in between of black (which sometimes may be too dark for people) and white (which might just look too ghostly/pearly if overdone).

Well, it works if one of your items is a stand out and I chose my clutch to be of colours in contrast to the whole grey style. Boyfit jeans are usually loose and if you can't find any boyfit jeans, just wear any pants or a straight cut jeans. If you're still worried that it might show your legs' shape, just buy a size bigger. That will do the trick (and a belt will help you too!). For a more formal look, a blazer or a jacket may do the trick. Lastly, wear the hijab as however you want! You'll look beautiful for that meeting of yours! Happy trying! :D

Casual

salam!

Well, the seling post will have to wait afterall. There is so much work to it! We'll see how things go but inshaAllah, it will be sooner or later. :D

Here is some polyvore sets I did because of boredom. This is a casual look which is what most of us Singaporean teenagers would don. The heat gets to us and minimalism (is there even such a word? hehh) is favoured.

You can add belts and bangles or even a long necklace to finish off this look. With a bag in hand to put your purse, cash and credit card in, we're ready to shop aren't we?

Love.

Bismillah

May this be a very good beginning to an endless threads. :D

Helloooooo!

I was really inspired to do this blog because of Sis Ange of hegab-rehab.blogspot.com. Well, I did have the intentions before this but I had no motivations. Adding to that, It had been two years in a row that I have been putting off this mini 'project' as I would call it. My first baby, yeaah? (: But because I am both jobless and also doesn't have school, I have the extra time to try and set this up. InshaAllah, I would upate this as frequently as possible. (:

The aim of this blog is to:
1. share the fashin trends of the muslimahs in Singapore,
2. create a platform for the shy, not outspoken ones,
3. share some fashion tips,
4. offer advices, nasihah and tazkirahs,
5. just share.

I might be posting up a selling post in the upcoming post to start the ball rolling, as we say it. Hehh. May friendships bloom from this blog, InshaAllah.

p.s: I have major typos error from past experieces. Plese don't mind me.

Love, Nabilah.
